Hi there, I'm Melanie and A Sewing Journal is where I share lovely, fresh and inspiring sewing projects.
I update A Sewing Journal daily and feature a selection of sewing projects from quilts to clothing to home decor along with sewing pattern reviews, book and magazine reviews, tutorials and more. I also love to look at beautiful fabric collections that inspire great sewing projects.
Before founding A Sewing Journal, I owned the online fabric shop, Modern Organic Fabrics. For various reasons, the fabric shop didn't work for me and I decided it was time to move on. I still love the organic cotton movement and remain a cheerleader for the industry. I hope someday we won't have to have a distinction between organic and non because all fabric will be produced in responsible and healthy manner.
Previous to Modern Organic Fabrics, I was the founder of and writer for The Fabric Shopper blog. I really enjoyed blogging and the community that evolves. I'm very happy to be back to full-time blogging. You can see my The Fabric Shopper archives here.
I am the mother of three lovely and energetic girls enjoying ourselves in the upper Midwest of the United States. Before writing blogs and spending my time sewing, I worked in the travel and restaurant industries. I have degrees in History and Spanish (double major) with minor in Latin American Studies and Marketing and Graphic Communications (one degree). As you can see, my interests are varied.
